Originally broadcast as two episodes of Exploration Northwest, plus a KOMO-TV in memorium special after the death of McCune in 1993.

Part I: Don McCune looks at the changes in the logging industry in the Pacific Northwest as exemplified by Weyerhauser's Camp Vail near Tenino, Washington and Mount Rainier. Includes photos and 1930's Weyerhaueser motion picture film of early steam logging, highlighting the importance of the railroad in the logging industry, and interviews of some veteran loggers.

Part II: Nostalgic flashback to the days when high-riggers ruled the big forests, filmed with the St. Regis Timber Company near Morton, Washington. Includes highlights from the 1971 Morton Loggers Jubilee.

Part III: KOMO-TV special, hosted by Dick Foley, looks at Don McCune's 50-year broadcast career with clips from The Captain Puget Show, Challenge, and Exploration Northwest. Includes interviews of film crew and family.

Biographical or Historical Data
After Don McCune passed away in 1993, his widow Linda McCune established "The Don McCune Library" to preserve and sell to the public the audio, video, and written works produced during Don's 50-year broadcast career on radio and television in Seattle, Washington and Fairbanks, Alaska at KRSC, KFAR, and KOMO.

Don McCune was the first of 5 children born to Ed and Grace McCune, born on December 29, 1918 in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. Don McCune died on March 27, 1993.
Awards
Exploration Northwest won 26 Emmy Awards for documentary excellence.
